Bought this for my mum as an xmas present and to my surprise there's a big ol' sticker on the cover saying it's a signed copy! He has split his story in half with the first half covering his playing days and the second his managerial experiences. His career has taken him from playing for Lisburn Distillery in Northern Ireland to being a key part of the indomitable Brian Clough's hugely successful Nottingham Forest team that won two Europeans Cups in the 70s. O'Neill moved into club management and took the helm at Grantham Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Norwich City, Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest. In the early 2000s, when Sir Alex Ferguson had first announced his wish to retire from football, O’Neill was a strong front runner for the Manchester United manager’s job when he was still Celtic manager.

And according to the residents of the Japanese island of Okinawa - the world's longest-living people - finding it is the key to a longer and more fulfilled life. Throughout the long, dark Antarctic winter, Shackleton fights for his life and the lives of his men - enduring freezing temperatures, a perilous lifeboat journey through the ice-strewn sea, and a punishing march across the South Georgia glaciers to seek the one slim chance they have of rescue. Martin grew up in Northern Ireland with the backdrop of the troubles always lingering as part of his childhood, as a player he won the most coveted club trophy that exists and as a manager developed a reputation for creating teams that punch above their weight. There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! From his upbringing in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, and thoughts of being a lawyer, to being spotted by Nottingham Forest and moving to England. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. He talks about his years with Celtic, where the team won seven trophies and reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2003, and at Aston Villa, where he achieved three consecutive top six Premier League finishes.

His account of tracing Lien and telling her story is a searing exploration of two lives and two families. There she is given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived. He made his breakthrough playing for Distillery in Northern Ireland before joining Brian Clough's legendary Nottingham Forest team, becoming one of the few players who made the epic journey from the Second Division to the glory years: winning the First Division championship, two League Cups and back-to-back European Cups. In the words of Mark Twain, many of us might say "I'm writing a novel" to which his sharp reply was "Neither am I".

I knew a lot of his later premier league managerial career so it was great to listen to the stories from his playing days and early managerial career. I would say this is a true football supporters book as the text is specific to events, matches and seasons that the true supporter will remember. However, by the time we get to the Sunderland and Republic of Ireland jobs, it does feel as though he is running out of steam. Definitely a nice read for those who remember his work or appreciate his managerial tact, although it must be said it is not as appreciated now as it should be.
