And life becomes a constant revolving door of meeting each childs' needs one after the other after the other after the other. When they see news reports of a missing woman, who was last seen walking alone not far from them, the pair are convinced it’s her they saw being attacked. She has sold over a million copies of her thrillers and several times been a number-1 bestseller on Kindle as well as a Washington Post bestseller. This is a wickedly clever premise that features a mother of two (Mary) who is on maternity leave and of course like every mother needs a good night's Sleep.

Easy to read, if you aren’t really that into this genre and don’t read a lot then you may enjoy it a bit more than I did. Are You Awake follows Mary and Tim who both seemingly witness a violent act through a window across the street in the middle of the night. She ran the UK’s first MA in crime writing for five years, and regularly teaches and talks about writing.Claire published her first novel in 2012, and has followed it up with many others in the crime fiction genre and also in women's fiction (writing as Eva Woods). There's maybe a bit of slow start as the author gets all the players in place, but even wondering how they'd all connect kept me turning the pages and before long I couldn't stop turning the pages.

And, the decisions she would make while her children were in tow would not win her any “mother of the year” awards. One thing that did bother me a little was that Mary was a lawyer but did not seem to understand the law. I was drawn into the lives of two primary characters, Mary and Tim, who have trouble sleeping at night and find themselves noticing odd happenings in the neighborhood. Like sleuths, they follow the clues, try to involve the police, but with no results, and eventually are in danger for their lives. After the past two unprecedented heat-wave summers here in the Pacific Northwest, I understand Mary’s predicament. Then, there are books like this one that are so ridiculous and inconceivable that you only continue to invest your time in them, simply to find out how much more unbelievable they can get. Although I don't suffer from PTSD, I’m a worrier and often have difficulty getting to sleep because my mind wants to revisit every single negative situation I can imagine.

After a degree in English and French from Oxford University she moved to London and worked in the charity sector. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file.

The first half was more about Mary's chaotic life while the second half really picked up the pace and got down to the nitty gritty.

I have heard great things about this author’s work, so I will have to give her another try-but this one unfortunately, was a MISS for me. This is an addictive thriller packed with secrets and lies with a twist that will knock you sideways. Unfortunately, this just didn't grab my attention in a meaningful way, so I ended up putting it down at 11%. It was a cat and mouse driven piece as 2 women are both witness to a crime but are unsure if they can trust themselves. And as the pair are drawn into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, the culprit appears to be even closer to home than they thought. However, she makes terrible decision after terrible decision that someone that smart would unlikely make. Tim, a neighbour, was a war journalist but is suffering from PSTD and insomnia and has also escaped to the park. I absolutely loved Claire McGowan's writing in I Know You and What You Did, so naturally I was pumped af to grab her latest off NetGalley. McGowan does a good job ramping up the suspense as the good intentions of two people unable to sleep turn into a quest for justice.
