Instead of my family, friends, etc being supportive of me they dished out these two phrases line for line. While the author is certainly animated and has a lot to say, his advice could have been condensed into three chapters at most. The obsessed are the industry builders, disrupters, titans, game changers, and living legends others admire and wish to emulate.

It does not mean that you neglect your family, your friends, or your health in the pursuit of your goals. You’ll discover why shooting for the moon, even if you fail, is much better than settling for mediocrity. The obsessed feed the beast, constantly striving to make more money, but also spending money just as quickly. This is often used along with other common refrains like, “Everybody can’t be the next Ed Sheeran,” (or any other big name in any industry). The reliance many have on free time, on downtime to recharge, is really just weakness, and can be eliminated through discipline. But then again, if you're looking for inspiration and motivation and you are really ready to put the work in, this book will do that whether you are new to self help or not.

From there, it’s likely that you find an unfulfilling job doing nothing too exciting and pursue personal relationships that are probably of the same nature. When you commit completely and have no other option than to deliver at that level, you will figure out how to get it done – regardless of how impossible it seems. All the others are must reads too, but in this one you can't fail to be inspired by the guys energy and passion. But it’s important that you let it in and try to understand it because it’s often what you need to succeed. Grant makes a great job explaining why it's important to be the captain of your ship and why you should ignore most of the "feedback" from mediocre people, even if those are friends and family.A job interviewee has to sell their skills, an executive presenting the board with an innovative new direction needs to sell the wisdom of such an option, and a long-time employee asking for a raise needs to sell their value to the company. The content is very useful in being productive at work, push yourself and achieve more and helps you find the negatives in you and fix them.

This book reminds you that your dreams don't just happen, they are spawned out of the obsessions you create.

Admit where you dropped your dreams just because you found a reason or actually looked for one, and listen to the guy.
