Jack’s warned off the case by Chief Detective Frank Volpi, and his girlfriend, the Neubauers’ daughter Dana, bails on him—though luckily, Nelson, Goodwin and Mickel’s top investigator, Pauline Grabowski, who’s just as smart and beautiful, is poised to take her place.

Motivated by a hundred forms of grief, Jack rallies his hometown friends to help him find the truth of Peter’s death – no matter how rich or corrupt the people who stand in their way. We are—well, ask Bigfoot, as Brooks does in this delightful yarn, following on his bestseller World War Z (2006). Describes a book or dust jacket that has the complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. This book made me feel that I was right in the setting and that I was a part of the character's lives. As he greets his family, his kid brother Peter lies stretched out on a steel gurney, battered, bruised - dead. They kept going on my nerves that much, that at some point I started skipping pages whenever they shared a scene. The story itself was disturbing and so unbelievable -- A rookie lawyer, alongside his grandpa and buddies, kidnaps a bunch of wealthy Hamptonians who are responsible for his brother's death.

Since winning the Edgar™ Award for Best First Novel with The Thomas Berryman Number, his books have sold in excess of 300 million copies worldwide and he has been the most borrowed author in UK libraries for the past eight years in a row. Anyway I was going to the beach so I thought it appropriate to take this book Beach House with me and I absolutely love James P and murder mystery books. It may be formulaic, but the perspective from which it's told held my attention so raptly that I couldn't put the book down. Peter was the darling of the townies in the Hamptons and also of the super wealthy summer time residents.M. Ford, "The Deader the Better," this novel has a corrupt law enforcement officer and public exposure of villains. It's a fairly straight-forward detective case for most of the novel, until a few twists in the plot push the intensity and mystery higher. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
