Feel bad giving this two stars because I know it’s more meant for people in their 30s and 40s not me. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. In fact, it’s not ‘pointless drivel’ when it is someone’s experience and Dolly treats these problems with respect, warmth and wit, which is exactly the type of writing I enjoy.

Dolly has an incredible ability to put herself in another person's shoes, something that sometimes seems so easy, but can actually turn out to be quite difficult. The book is relatively slim at just over 200 pages with pretty large print, which I find is standard for collected column type books. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Nothing like zooming through 50-odd advice columns on a Sunday evening to put all your worries about life at ease. She puts so much thought and effort into her answers and some of the problems she deals with are SO relatable. She is the author of the 2018 memoir Everything I Know About Love, the 2020 novel Ghosts and last year's Dear Dolly: On Love, Life and Friendship. Because I was feeling something that other people had felt and therefore I wasn't, as I suspected, the loneliest and strangest woman in the world.

They include breakups and body issues, families, friendships, dating, divorce, the pleasures and pitfalls of social media, sex, loneliness, longing, love and everything in between. She is the author of two Sunday Times bestselling works of non-fiction: Everything I Know About Love , which won a National Book Award (UK) for Autobiography of the Year and was made into a BBC One TV Series, and Dear Dolly , a collection of her agony aunt columns from The Sunday Times Style magazine. this book is made up of collected advice from dolly's sunday times agony aunt column, and as expected, each response blends empathy, humour and emotionally intelligent wisdom in a way that is so quintessentially dolly: comforting, light and reminiscent of having a long coffee with an old friend.if you just want something not to serious and something that feels like a gossip session with a friend; this would be an excellent choice.

what I learnt from sharing my most private pain with a semi-professional problem-solver was that the mere act of asking for help was, in itself, healing. Although I didn't love Everything I Know About Love at the time I read it (and have already reached the conclusion that it was a matter of right book-wrong time), I really like Dolly's writing. Since early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style. You're experiencing something that will soften and harden you, give you strength and allow you to be weak. i look forward to dipping in and out of it the next time i find myself wishing i had a millennial big sister to bring me back down to earth. What I liked about her responses to each reader were that they were carefully planned, and considerate of both the reader’s feelings and the person/people they were in conflict with.
