In the song “ Keel Over and Die” by Old Crow Medicine Show I am actually quite impressed with the speed of the KB01’s top end.

On separation and layering, it gives an enough gaps on each element but the distinction on frequency layeing with its dynamic characters are rather blurry and inconsistent within its sonic canvas that will affect the envelopment of sound on more complex, multi-instrumental tracks.

The rise of the upper midrange continues in the highs where transients, air, and details executed well without being overbearing to the ears.

Downsides to the Treble RegionThe biggest issue to the treble would be for treble heads who desire better resolution and a cleaner treble punch and bite up top. If these are qualities you’re looking for and you’re on a mega-tight budget, you could do far, far worse! I am not affiliated to KB EAR nor receive monetary incentives and financial gains as they provide me a review unit for an exchange of factual and sincere feedback from yours truly. I definitely have mixed feelings with regards to the mid-range response of the LARK but I guess it is still within the realms of acceptance and that it still maintains that “detail-oriented” idea revolving around the tuning here.Macrodetails and microdetails in the mids to upper-mid region stands its own ground but does not fight with the main instruments and tracks.

It has dual drivers per side, include 1Advanced Balanced armature and 10mm composite diaphragm (PU+biological diaphragm) dynamic drivers. So this is not a technical set for critical listening or analytical listening, but more for sitting back to chill and enjoy the music. The KS2 are fun, vivid, well-balanced and sound very natural to me, as well as energetic when things get bassy. The lower mids do continue to fall back as we move up with the trough of the V somewhere between 600Hz and 1kHz.There’s an emphasis in the sub-bass as well as the upper-midrange but that’s about it as far as coloring is concerned. If we were talking about more hardcore CHIFI connoisseurs who purchase midfi to TOTL gear, then yes, they have different priorities and perhaps an amp will unlock the sound for audio nirvana and future proof this hobby, but I honestly won’t recommend beginners to invest so much into sources when they are getting a budget CHIFI set. The casing and button appear to be cheaply made and I worry this could be a weak link in an otherwise pretty strong chain. There is still a pretty nice presence in this area of the mix and due to the fairly well-balanced tuning I don’t find the midrange is dealt too horrible a recession. Inside, the box, we have the earpieces resting in a black plastic tray with the rest of the kit hiding underneath.
