Jeanne has also worked on scripts for TV, including Polly Pocket and The Slow Norris, and a pilot TV series for Dr Xargle.

A great story about a little mouse named Colin, who compared to his brothers and sisters, was very small indeed. But with packaging this nice, and writing this good, Cottonball Colin is the exception that proves the rule. What I love about this book is that it sets up a pretty clear message without pandering to its audience. But what about the picture book that contains a subtle, understated, sly little message, not for children, but for their parents instead?Jeanne has won several awards including the Nestle Smarties prize for Tadpole’s Promise, the Portsmouth Children’s Book Prize for Dumb Creatures and Grandad and John and the Book Trust Early Years award for Bog Baby.

In fact she worries so much that he is never let out of the house because he might get hurt or sick. In fact, if she had just treated him like the rest of his siblings he would have had his life threatened significantly less often. She has won several awards, including the Children's Book Award, the Silver Smarties Prize and has also been shortlisted for the Whitbread Award. This is a story about a kid who ends the book by walking off into the sunset to find his own way, dangers all around. Colin the smallest mouse wants to play outside with his brothers and sisters but is told to stay inside.

By the time we finished laughing and gasping through Cottonwool Colin, the consensus was – this is a book for Moms! As for the writing itself, Willis has a sweet straightforward style that keeps this book from sounding like anything more than a really cool story. Worried that he isn't as tough as the others, Colin's mother overprotects and babies the little mouse, preventing him from ever involving himself in what she might deem a "dangerous" situation. It is about the smallest mouse that is wrapped up in cottonwool by his mum so that nothing happens to him, yet he goes on to have an adventure. And to be perfectly frank, if I were seventeen again and opening up presents to prepare me on my way, I think I'd much prefer this book to a copy of Love You Forever. What I would use this for in my class is that even though your small you can still do anything no matter what you put your mind too. Go through the shelves of your local library and you'll eventually find some didactic tract (nine times out of ten written by a celebrity) that is trying to teach kids this lesson or that lesson with varying degrees of success. Multi-award-winning Tony Ross has become one of the best-known creators of original and traditional picture books and his work has been published all over the world. But instead of keeping him safe, the cotton wool attracts the attention of every fierce creature imaginable – little boys, ducks, even foxes!

I do not find that it is something that a child could really get into, but I would still recommend to give as a gift to those who are getting ready to explore and/or for those who may fear the exploration that their child is preparing to endure. The fox might look a little too scary for a very young reader but adds the right amount of thrill for a 4year old! The fabulous team of Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross have brought us a fantastic story to read to our Moms! I think this book would be a more approprete for 3rd and 4th graders due to the concept of the book about the mouse growing up and being able to go out and faceing to the big wide world. So small that his Mom only agrees to allow him outside into the great big world if she can wrap him in cottonwool. Tony’s books have been shortlisted for the The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards ( Slug Needs a Hug) and the Kate Greenaway ( Dr Xargle's Book of Earth Tiggers), and Tadpole’s Promise won the Silver Medal Smarties Prize. He has been named as the best-selling illustrator in the UK for three years in a row, and he is the UK’s libraries' most-borrowed illustrator.
