Honley in fact came third in 1883 and bagged top-six finishes for three years after their win, whilst Lindley came second in 1901 and were in the top-six for the following four. Ferodo was runner-up the year before their triumph and fourth the year after, whilst City of Coventry were no contest muggers either - their win coming in the middle of a six year spell of two other stage mentions. While some of the stories may have been “fine”, all this collection of stories did was prove that Miss Marple could only be written by Agatha Christie.

The box was also off to the conductor’s left, so when we got on stage I made sure we were sat at an angle with the band in the old fashioned formation with the troms to my right and the baritones and euphs behind the horns.” Ten pinbowling

Famous day

Built as a Sunday Schools for the Congregational Church on Hibbert Lane in 1866, just a year or so after the Church itself was built in 1865; The Albert Schools played a large part in the lives of my grandfather, my parents and my aunt, and myself, siblings and cousins. My father, John, came from Bradford in Manchester and met my Mother, Mary, at the Roman Lakes. John and his mate Harry rented a wooden hut on a farm in Marple Bridge. The Roman Lakes has had a big impact on our lives, as you will see later on. Memories of Marple : pictorial and descriptive reminiscences of a life-time in Marple leisure hours on the banks of the Goyt the Tame and the Etherow with stories old and new of bygone days I enjoyed the connection to Dorothy L Sayers novel, Hangman's Holiday featuring Lord Peter Wimsey. My favorite quote:

I appreciate very greatly the honour conferred upon me and value so much more the opportunity that it affords me to do my best in the service of the Sunday school and Endeavour. Murder at the Villa Rosa by Elly Griffiths - An author escapes to a picturesque Italian gateway to get some inspiration, and meets some very interesting people, including a certain Jane Marple. This felt very different in style to the others in the collection as Miss Marple is a secondary character although I liked the overall idea. 3.5/5. After taking the throne Queen Rene spoke of her delight in being chosen to reign as the Rose Queen. She looked forward to a happy reign, during which she would do her best for the Sunday school. "Thank you for the honour you have conferred upon me." she concluded. As the years roll by it becomes easier to think of these moments of singularity as hiccups in the predictable time line of British Open history: How wrong they invariably are.Urban myth has it that within eight bars of the opening Bram Gay was alleged to have said; “Gentlemen: We have a winner”. That has never quite been officially denied, but it’s interesting to note that in his written remarks the strong-minded arranger wrote of the opening; ‘This is really very nice. Right, all of it - so far!’ Francis was my 4 x great grandfather and I believe that I and my two sons are his only direct ancestors. I eventually came across Francis after I'd asked my father, Charles Brindley, to tell me as much as he could about our Brindley family. My father did not know about Francis but he managed to spark an interest in me to look further at my family's history. To waltz strains, played by the band, the children entered into stately procession, gracefully led by Miss Dorothy Vernon. She was dressed in cream organdie over satin, with an ermine collar and a blue train. Her bouquet was of cream roses. Probate Court: Pre-1541 – Court of the Bishop of Lichfield (Episcopal Consistory), Post-1540 – Court of the Bishop of Chester (Episcopal Consistory) There I told the band that I felt they had no better chance of winning the Open than on this piece. I thought I would get a few wry smiles in return for my morale boosting speech, but I just got nods of knowing determination instead.”

Joan Hope, front left aged 5, with Marple Rose Bud Queen 1928 Miss Margaret Jarvis Here is what Dave said about his mum Joan when he first got in touch: This line of conveyance is peculiarly adapted for pleasure parties, who may enjoy a delightful and healthy excursion on the Peak Forest Canal, and spend a day in the rural woods and pleasure grounds in the neighbourhood. The scenery is beautiful in the extreme, and cannot be equalled in any part of the country.' Enterprising businessmenIn 1825 James Warhurst became the first landlord of the Spring Gardens in Compstall. He was probably responsible for building the pub itself and he also leased a large plot of land behind it that he laid out as Pleasure Gardens. In 1837 the licence passed to his son, Caleb, who was to remain as landlord for 36 years. Caleb leased further land and during his tenancy turned the Pleasure Gardens into a major tourist attraction that frequently received several thousand visitors on Bank Holidays. However, by the close he simply rubber stamped his opinion with; ‘Let’s face it - there have been tiny clips - perhaps three? But in the face of such musicality, who cares? Thanks, really.’ Marple Congregational Sunday School's Rose Queen crowning in the grounds of Rose Hill House, was bathed in sunshine on Saturday afternoon. Miss Elsie Harrison, the popular choice of the Sunday school for the crown during 1934, went through the coronation ceremony with charm and dignity. Miss Marple: "I have recently come to believe that dim sum which I believe this style of food is called means touch of the heart." You could be forgiven for thinking that Roman Lakes must have been Marple's most popular destination but, surprisingly, this was not the case. This was achieved by one of our present-day local pubs with quite an amazing history.
