The mats feature either 1" hexes or squares, or, for the reversible ones, 1" hexes backed by 1" squares. In IMT threads, members of our community can promote their own work, including commercial projects and crowdfunding. portable: I think that this solution is a bit less encumbering than a dry-erase board, especially at the sizes I'm thinking: I want something I can carry with a backpack, if possible.

I've kicked around the idea of plexiglass for a while now, but there's the storage and transportability issue, so I've been looking into transparency film - like what is used for overhead projectors. I don't own one of their two-sided mats, but I have friends who do, and the two-sided mats don't lay flat after being rolled up for storage.

Lay down your gridded paper on the contact paper so they make a battlemat of what ever size you desire. If it's curling, he puts some books on the corners and usually by the time we play it's pretty flat. Traditionally these gaming mats were made in an off-white eggshell color, but after 42 years they decided to change things up! A fellow DM has the Chessex Role Playing Mat 4 Pack (overhead projection water based markers) and they work very well too.

I've cleaned up your question a little; your English was fine, I just adjusted it to match our site's style a bit better. The only drawback is that my maps are pretty big, I'd guess about 3'x4', and the sheet of glass would have to be pretty big to cover it, making it inconvenient in weight, storage, and possible breakage. Best thing about them is that you lay out the tiles as you need them, rather than laying out the whole mat at once.most of those will be felt, and often hex-gridded, but drop a sheet of plexiglass over them, and a quick and easy hexmap. Using the wipe-clean mat gives ultimate flexibility, but it isn’t as visually satisfying as the other options. It could be that the new mats don't share this particular quality, in which case I suppose I just need to reinvest. It lets you have at least a couple ready and a spare when they hare off and you have to draw one up In a hurry .

I have been able to leave my drawings on my battlematts for 2 weeks and they came off with no problem. That's why almost everything I use is on GW 25mm round bases, upside down, with the mini's original base cut to let it sit inside of it. Bonus: this can double as a hard material in which you can wedge your extra character sheets in to keep them from crumpling down the edges. As for size, I personally just use 2 sheets wide by 2 sheets tall (of 8-1/2 X 11 inch paper), so I guess that's something near 17X22.

Given that it sounds like you are willing to do some work here's another option that I've seen work, but not done myself. I also wonder if it would help to unroll it for a couple hours before you game and then roll it up to travel and then unroll it again as soon as you get to your destination. Decided this time I will streamline the game, put more emphasis in story telling and less focus (and money) in materials. I'm not so excited about experimenting with my Chessex mats with adhesive-backed permanent bonding and hoping it works out, though.

As for the curling, I either put stuff on the corners or simply lay it facedown for an hour before the game and most of the curling disappears. You can leave it in one large piece or cut it into smaller squares and put them down as you need them. Because these Battlemats are made of vinyl, Chessex considers them stain resistant (“spills wipe away easily”).My Chessex Battlemat (20+ years and going strong : those were *not* 'Made in China') is within reaching distance . I personally haven't used mine in ages due to a lack of interest from IRL players to run games using a battlemat, but I have it stowed under a mattress in case I do need it. When you see that one of the pens you have tends to set-in too fast, wipe it off sooner and/or just stop using it. Get yourself a large piece of graph/hex paper, cover it with Clear Contact Paper (translucent, vinyl shelf liner), front and back, to waterproof it. But I figure that I could just keep some wet wipes and some paper towels with a small trash can close by.
